Conversations with Dad

We had a few memorable conversations.

Dad
“Make sure you cut your toenails straight and push the cuticles down other wise you will have trouble with your feet.”

Dad
“She’s not my mother why should I get her anything on mothers day.”

Stranger
“That kid might get hurt.”
Dad
“There’s more where that came from.”

Dad
“I think we’re lost.”
Chris
With a touch of fear in his voice. “Are we in Vietnam?”

The sound of tires on pavement loud inside the car.
Dad
“You kids put that board back down before your brother falls out.”

Mom
“Lets go on vacation to Florida.”
Dad
“We can go to Kentucky, everyone in the LTD wagon.” This was mom , dad and four kids. Sandy was away at college or something.
We visited Gettysburg PA, for a week and toured the Musselman’s plant. On the way back home we stopped at a Water Slide Park and Margaret was to scared to go down the slide after Dad already paid for her admission.

Dad
“You’re twenty six and getting married this will be an important day in your life. Remember to treat her with respect.” I don’t think he was referring to the lawn mower.

The door on the car falls open as we go around a corner and Grandma Estes nearly falls out of the car.
Dad
“You should check to make sure that’s latched correctly.”
That door never closed right, even if you slammed it, mom always knew she had to hold it shut.

Dad
“We can make it to Charlotte and Phil’s for Thanksgiving.”
We got there and everyone else decided to stay home because there was over a foot of snow on the roads and it was unsafe.

Memorial or Decoration Day

by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

RANCID bulk changes

First I created a file in this case filename with the commands I wanted to run inside it. I changed to the rancid user first and then created the file and ran the commands as rancid.
su rancid -s /bin/bash
cat filename

 access-list 01 permit host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
snmp-server community STRING rw 01
Save the file as filename.
Then run clogin using this file and a hostname.

clogin -x filename hostname
Give the full path to clogin if needed, and if there is more than one host being changed use a space between each hostname.

No knead bread

I should have let it rise a bit more, I mixed the dough at 4PM Saturday and then at 6:30 AM Sunday pulled it out and rolled it in flour. I think it really needed that eighteen hours of rise time to make it right. I used two cups of whole wheat flower and one cup of white four, other than that I followed the recipe.

Ford Freestar Cruise Control

Check the fuse and its good then check the switch on the bottom of the master cylinder with a jumper across the two wires. This is number one and number sixteen, I just put the jumper across number one. Looks like I have to replace the switch after putting a paper clip in for a jumper and driving up the road it worked like it should. Reconnect the switch and the cruise control turns on but when you try to set it the light blinks on and right back off. This started with cruise control working sometimes and not others.
From what I read I may get a few drops of brake fluid when I pull the switch out, but as long as I replace it right away not much should leak out.
I found it through Amazon for $16.80
